The other day someone reached out on instagram and asked if I could share kid-friendly recipes. If you’re an OG follower, you know kids aren’t my thing. I don’t know what they eat, what they do, or how you keep them entertained. I don’t know any of that stuff. But I do remember when I was a child (waiting for the day I was 30 because being a kid sucks) and how much I loved to eat. That obviously hasn’t changed. But I wanted to help out all my parents out there in any way while they are quarantined at home with their kiddos during this corona virus scare. So I put a list together of recipes that I think any kid will love! There are a few thrown in there that have a little spice to them, but you can easily reduce that spice down to fit their kid-mouth needs. Hopefully these recipes not only keep your kids full and happy, but keep you guys entertained for a short amount of time in between DIY projects and games. I’m not sure what kids do when home from school, but I have a feeling that you have to fill most hours with tasks. And teaching them to cook is a task that will turn into a skill that will help them in more ways than one. It’s pretty cool to think that teaching kids to cook could really change the trajectory of their lives. So we might as well start now when we have all the time in the world. And when I say we, I mean you…since I don’t have a child.

    Hey Juli!
I know you have a billion recipes, but do you think you could do a blog post of some of the best freezer friendly recipes? Trying to get some good food together since sh*t is hitting the fan all over the damn place.

I’m 32 and have 2 kids. I love to eat but do not enjoy cooking. It ruins the eating experience—-I don’t want to know what is in there!
Posts on kid-friendly food often make me crackle hysterically. I loved your post. It is the realest I’ve read:
“Kids aren’t my thing. I don’t know what they eat, what they do, or how you keep them entertained. I don’t know any of that stuff. But I do remember when I was a child (waiting for the day I was 30 because being a kid sucks) and how much I loved to eat.”
When you’re a parent, you don’t even realize it as the ability to think like a kid slowly gets sucked out of you. Thanks for the reminder—was a kid once…this is what I would have wanted/liked—whether it be a snack/meal or just time being with the big grown people.
If you ever need any kids to borrow to test things on for a blog post…I will gladly lend mine.

Thanks for this! I don’t have kids myself, but have step kids that stay with us for long holidays and feeding them is super draining. After years of testing, I have come to rely on a few of your recipes to get us all through. Some of their favs are anything spaghetti squash casserole, and acorn squash chili without the squash. They always ask for these and I feel good about serving them. (They also have no idea there’s any sort of squash in the casseroles.)

FAQs

How to do paleo with kids? ›

You can make your Paleo meals more kid-friendly, such as slicing your wild-caught fish into fish sticks, offering their favorite pre-chopped fruits and veggies, and sprinkling seeds into a nutritious smoothie.

What is in the paleo diet? ›

The typical paleo diet focuses on naturally raised meat and fish, as well as vegetables and fruits. It promotes avoiding dairy products and grains. This diet can put you at risk for deficiencies in calcium and vitamin D, which are critical to bone health.

Is Paleo diet OK for kids? ›

Some elements of the Paleo diet are appropriate for kids, but it may be too restrictive. This is because it requires you to completely avoid certain foods that provide important nutrients for proper growth and development. It is also incredibly common for children to be picky eaters.

Do you lose weight fast on paleo? ›

The Bottom Line. It's well known that following a paleo diet can help you lose weight. It's high in protein, low in carbs, may reduce appetite and eliminates highly processed foods and added sugar. If you don't like counting calories, evidence suggests the paleo diet could be a great option.

Do you lose weight on paleo? ›

The paleo diet is an eating pattern that's designed to mimic the diets of early hunter-gatherer human ancestors. Some research has found that this way of eating may help increase weight loss, promote heart health, and support better blood sugar control.

Why am I so hungry on paleo? ›

Usually a lack of good fats and/or a lack of protein are what cause hunger when you first switch to a paleo or ketogenic diet. Fat and protein are what make you feel satiated. Examine your food intake and try adding a little more protein and fat and see how you feel.

What not to eat on paleo? ›

The diet excludes cereal grains, legumes, dairy, processed oils, refined sugar, alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, and trans fats. Some paleo-friendly foods include lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

Is peanut butter OK on paleo diet? ›

Peanuts are technically legumes, which are not paleo compliant, and that means peanut butter is off limits for paleo eaters. All other nuts and seeds are fair game, so if nuts and seeds are the only ingredients, snack away!

Can you eat rice on paleo? ›

Strict paleo dieters exclude all grains from their diets — including rice — primarily due to their high phytate content. Although it's technically prohibited, many people still consume small amounts of white rice while following a paleo diet because it's lower in phytates, compared with other types.

What is the easiest way to do the Paleo diet? ›

While there is no one way to follow the paleo diet, the basic idea is to avoid processed foods and focus instead on healthy, whole foods. You can also base your diet on paleo foods, adding a few modern healthy foods like grass-fed butter and gluten-free grains.
