How To Prepare Polish Meatballs In Horseradish Sauce

Step I – Make The Polish Meatballs

Saute a diced onion in oil. Mix it with the rest of the ingredients for the meatballs and mix till it’s smooth.

Start forming walnut-sized balls of the mixture.

Fry the meatballs in oil for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side. If you don’t want to use too much oil, you can bake them in the oven at the recommended temperature.

Step II – Prepare The Horseradish Sauce

Heat the spices in water. Once it starts to boil, turn off the heat.

In another bowl, mix the horseradish and heavy cream with the flour.

Meatballs

  • 1 lb / ½ kg of minced meat (beef or pork)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of dried marjoram
  • ¼ tsp of black pepper
  • oil

Horseradish sauce

  • 2 cups of water
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • ¼ tsp of black pepper
  • 3 allspice berries
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5 juniper berries (fresh or dry)
  • ½ cup / 125ml of heavy cream
  • 2 tbsps of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp of grated horseradish
  • 1 tsp of lemon juice

How To Make Polish Meatballs?

  1. Peel, dice an onion, and sweat it on oil.
  2. Combine with the rest of the ingredients and mix until you'll get a smooth consistency.
  3. Start forming meatballs. Each should be the size of a walnut.
  4. Fry meatballs in oil (3-5 minutes on each side) or bake them in the oven (392°F / 200°C for 10-15 minutes).


How To Make A Horseradish Sauce?

  1. Boil water with spices.
  2. Mix the cold heavy cream with the flour and horseradish.
  3. When the water with spices starts boiling, turn off the heat.
  4. 3-5 minutes later, start pouring the heavy cream with flour and horseradish very slowly, stirring constantly.
  5. Add lemon juice and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
